WESTERNATS DELIVERS UNFORGETTABLE THRILLS TO A PACKED PERTH MOTORPLEX

The 54th annual Westernationals at Perth Motorplex proved to be a show-stopping event, drawing a massive crowd and delivering a spectacular weekend of Drag Racing action.

Thousands of passionate fans filled the grandstands, the roar of 11,000hp, 500kph Top Fuel machines and the fierce competition in Top Doorslammer and Top Fuel Motorcycle electrified the atmosphere, making it a weekend to remember.

"The huge crowd at the Westernats underscored the event’s growing influence in Australian motorsport,” said Matt Rice, Partnerships Manager NDRC, Media Scrum. “The packed house wasn’t just a win for the sport. It also delivered exceptional value for sponsors who aligned their brands with the biggest names in drag racing. With a massive spectator turnout, event partners enjoyed heightened brand exposure, engagement, and direct access to a fiercely loyal motorsport audience.”

From trackside banners to digital integrations and exclusive fan activations, sponsors were front and centre, capitalising on the high-energy environment.

“The extensive coverage on 7Plus and widespread social media traction further amplified their reach, making the Westernationals an unmissable opportunity for brand visibility and fan interaction,” Matt said.

The headline act of the weekend saw Top Fuel racers unleash their nitro-fuelled beasts, culminating in a thrilling A-Final showdown. Peter Xiberras secured his first-ever victory at Perth Motorplex, overcoming defending champion Damien Harris with a blistering 3.854-second, 502.36kph run, the only 500kph+ pass of the finals. With back-to-back round wins leading up to the final, Xiberras proved his dominance, leaving an indelible mark on the championship.

Despite a record-breaking 519.5kph pass in qualifying, Harris faced last-minute trouble in the A-Final, giving Xiberras the window to seize victory. Meanwhile, WA underdog Kyle Putland lit up the track, bringing the crowd to its feet with a sensational 3.969-second 460.66kph B-Final victory over Wayne Newby.

"With its massive spectator numbers, thrilling on-track action, and extensive national coverage, the Westernats Round has proven that Australian drag racing is making a comeback,” mentioned Matt. “The event’s success underscores the growing appeal of the NDRC, making it a prime investment for current and future sponsors looking to engage with a passionate and expanding fanbase.”

As the NDRC continues to build momentum, sponsors and partners stand to gain unparalleled exposure, reaching dedicated race fans and a broader audience captivated by the adrenaline-fueled spectacle of drag racing.

“The Westernats' ability to draw capacity crowds and deliver unmissable action underscores the value of partnering with the NDRC,” Matt explained.

“Partnering with the NDRC offers unmatched marketing opportunities for brands ready to make their mark in motorsport,” he added.

With the 2025 Westernats now etched in the history books as one of the most successful and well-attended rounds in recent years, the anticipation for the next edition is already building. Fans, racers, and sponsors can expect even bigger crowds, bolder competition, and higher stakes as the NDRC championship continues its electrifying journey across Australia.
